Expect your cell phone to vibrate and sound an alarm this afternoon. The federal emergency alert system, including wireless emergency alerts, will be tested today at approximately 2:20 pm. EDT. The test message will also be broadcast on television and radio.

Utility contractors will replace existing wires, install new and more durable poles, install or replace switching equipment, and transfer main line wires underground in select rear properties — upgrades to help reduce the number of customers affected by an outage, the utility said.

Grangebel Park’s gravel paths, constructed in 2010 and destroyed by Superstorm Sandy in 2012, have been ripped out and replaced with asphalt walkways.

In letters that began going out in April, FEMA is giving homeowners with flood insurance policies 30 days to prove the insured property is their primary residence — or else they are automatically assessed a $250 surcharge on top of their policy premium.
