Holiday bonfire

Two of Riverhead's most festive holiday celebrations will be held tomorrow as one big Christmas event in downtown Riverhead.

The Lions Club Santa parade and the holiday bonfire on the riverfront will be held on the same day for the first time this year. But Santacon won't be returning to downtown Riverhead in 2017.

Hundreds gathered on the Peconic Riverfront last night for the 17th Annual Holiday Bonfire, where they enjoyed carols, cocoa and Santa Claus.

Christmas carols, Santa Claus, a giant bonfire, fireworks and record-setting warm temperatures provided a great time for holiday revelers on the Peconic Riverfront in downtown Riverhead last night.

Hundreds of people turned out to enjoy the blazing bonfire, hot chocolate and cookies on the Peconic Riverfront for Riverhead's 15th Annual Holiday Bonfire. This year, the event was capped off with a spectacular fireworks display.

A 64-year-old Florida resident fell off a downtown Riverhead dock into the Peconic River as she snapped pictures of Santa arriving for the holiday bonfire. Three men who were standing on the dock nearby were able to quickly pull her from the chilly water.
