Nonprofits working to assist homebound people in need of food are asking the County of Suffolk to establish a food crisis hotline dedicated to connecting people in need with a source of food.

The pantry is a joint effort of the school and the Island Harvest food bank, serving a student population where more than 80 percent of the children are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch under federal guidelines.
