With nine regulation pickleball courts, a restaurant and bar, and other amusements like a bocce court, corn hole games and ping pong, Box Pickleball, the massive new indoor pickleball club on Old Country Road in Riverhead has something for everyone.

Riverhead Town has three pickleball courts at Veterans Park in Calverton, and needs at least three more according to a group of avid pickleball players who use the courts regularly. Town officials say new private facilities can meet the growing demand for court time.

Box Pickleball will have nine pickleball courts, a full restaurant and bar, a pro shop, and an area for cornhole, its owner says. The club is shooting for a May opening at its Route 58, Riverhead location.

Pickleball, a sport hugely popular with seniors across the country, has flourished in Riverhead, where town recreation department programs have an avid following, competitive play and the first-of-its-kind tournament on Long Island.
