Riverhead's 2023 Halloween Fest drew hordes of ghosts, goblins and monsters to downtown Riverhead Saturday for an afternoon and evening of family fun — coffin races, trick-or-treating and a giant after-dark Halloween Parade on Main Street.

Moving the popular summer street festival to Friday nights will make it a great way to kick off the weekend for visitors and locals alike, Riverhead BID President Steve Shauger said.

Downtown Riverhead's first Oktoberfest was a big hit Saturday evening in Grangebel Park. Expect more downtown events tailored to showcase Riverhead's craft breweries, including a Halloween brewery crawl, the return of SantaCon and in 2022 the debut of the "Riverhead Ale Trail."

The Riverhead BID Management Association is interested in the vacant storefront next to Craft'd in a building the town recently acquired.

Downtown Riverhead is ready to host the full array of popular events that draw thousands of visitors to the riverfront business district each year — if pandemic restrictions on social gatherings allow them to take place.

Tax-deductible donations will fund the purchase of gift cards health care workers can use at participating downtown businesses.

The Riverhead BID is planning a New Year's Eve fireworks display on the Peconic Riverfront this year.
