Immigration enforcement and related issues, are “purely federal functions and are administered by federal agencies," and the Riverhead Police Department will continue its existing policy that police will not get involved in immigration enforcement, Supervisor Tim Hubbard said in a statement Friday afternoon.

The Riverhead School District will strictly adhere to N.Y. State guidance that “immigration enforcement actions cannot occur on school grounds without proper legal documentation."

A total of 65 people—10 of those in Suffolk County— were arrested under 'Operation Cross Check' in New York City and Long Island.

Several town board members feel that Riverhead's policies regarding undocumented immigrants are too similar to the laws in San Francisco that kept a man from being deported before he allegedly killed a woman last Wednesday.
