Wind advisory

Daytime highs in the 20 and lows in the low teens, accompanied by strong northwest winds at 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph today and up to 60 mph tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

A wind advisory is in effect today until 10 p.m. for Long Island and the New York metropolitan region. The National Weather Service said west winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts of up to 50 mph are expected today, with the heaviest winds expected late this morning into early afternoon.

More than 300 people were left without power in the predawn hours this morning the North Fork, as strong winds knocked down limbs, trees and power lines. A wind advisory for gusts up to 50 mph is in effect until 1 p.m.
