Wind advisory

Another overnight rainstorm will impact the region tonight with potentially heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms after midnight, with strong southeast winds gusting up to 50 mph and coastal flooding Saturday.

Strong winds, gusting to 50 mph, and heavy rain are expected to continue early this morning across the region. Wind, coastal flood advisories are in effect till 10 a.m. a Gale warning is also in effect for local waters.

Potentially heavy rain and strong winds are expected tonight into tomorrow morning as a coastal storm bears down on the local region.

A coastal flood warning and wind advisory have been issued as a winter storm will to bring rain and strong winds into the region Thursday night through Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm will produce an inch or two of rain and northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts of 45-50 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Inundation of 1 to 2 feet in low-lying areas are possible during times of high tide today.

The strong low pressure system is expected to produce rainfall totals of 2 to 5 inches, with locally higher amounts are possible, the National Weather Service said in a statement. A coastal flood advisory is in effect through 8 p.m. and a wind advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. through noon tomorrow.

A rapidly developing low pressure system south of Long Island produce heavy rainfall across the region late tonight and tomorrow, with the potential for strong winds tomorrow.

Northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected, the National Weather Service said in the advisory.

Update- Jan. 16: A wind advisory is in effect Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10. p.m. for strong northwest winds gusting to 50 mph. A gale warning is in effect for the eastern Long Island Sound from Thursday morning to Friday afternoon.
