Zika virus, which has swept through South and Central Americas and has been reported in every state in the continental U.S. except Wyoming, is not likely to reach epidemic proportions in North America, according to Riverhead infectious disease specialist Dr. Sandeep Gandhi.

As more mosquito samples and birds test positive for West Nile and a mosquito believed capable of transmitting Zika virus reported to be active in Suffolk, the county vector control division plans more aerial larvicide applications.
