Riverhead Town Police Department’s Crime Prevention Unit host the 2026 National Night Out celebration Tuesday evening outside Riverhead Town Hall.
The free community event gave residents a chance to meet Riverhead police officers and see K-9 and drone demonstrations, police motorcycles, bikes and an ATV, the department’s command post, SWAT and dive equipment, a police boat and a police car.
Police officers served free burgers, hot dogs and ice cream. Kids of all ages enjoyed a dunk tank, games and giveaway prizes and music, plus a visit from McGruff the Crime Dog.
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign, introduced in August 1984, that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.
