2013 0503 Ramos mug

A 32-year-old Riverhead man was arrested early this morning in connection with the nursery school abduction scare that occurred Tuesday afternoon at Pine Tree Day Nursery on Roanoke Avenue.

Police said they apprehended Gemler Ramos, who lives on the same street as the school, after witnesses identified him as the man who jumped a chain link fence surrounding the playground yesterday and reportedly grabbed a child by the hand.

The police investigation led to a witness to the incident, who assisted investigators in identfying Ramos and locating him on Railroad Avenue at about 7:30 this morning.

Ramos was arrested without incident on one count of third-degree trespass, transported to Riverhead Police Department headquarters and held for arraignment.
