The Riverhead Blue Waves varsity girls soccer team beat Copiague 7-0 on Saturday.
The win puts the Waves at 7-3-1 this season, with one game remaining.
Ashley Drozd scored five of the Waves’ seven goals, breaking the school record for most goals in a game.
Sierra Smith scored off an assist from Megan Weiss, who is leading the team in assists. Sierra Roces scored off an assist from Ashley Drozd.
Goalie Carolyn Carrera had 11 saves in the shutout.
“The team has been practicing hard and want to finish the season on a high note,” said head coach Hassan Olowu. “It was a good team performance, but it was nice to see a lot of the younger players, like Sierra Roces, Megan Brunner and Sierra Smith assert themselves offensively a lot more,” he said. “Ashley’s goals and assist this game were just special. It is one thing to score multiple goals in a game. It is another thing to also get teammates involved like she did,” the coach said. “This is a great sendoff for the program.”
The girls’ last game is Wednesday at 4:30, when they host Southampton.
