The double-trouble rowing team did it again, sculling their way to another first place finish.
After placing first in the New York State Scholastic Rowing Championships last weekend, Riverhead seniors Danny O’Neill and Hunter Bingham placed first yet again in the Northeastern Regionals in Lowell, Mass., this weekend.
They won their qualifying heat with ease on Saturday, advancing to the semi-finals on Sunday.
On Sunday, they cruised through the semi-finals, placing first and then after a few hours of rest, they took first in the final, winning by 13.96 seconds, ahead of second place by about 6 boat lengths.
Now, with both state and regional titles secure, they now face the ultimate challenge: the national event.
From June 7-10, the duo will participate in the U.S. Rowing Youth National Championship in Oak Ridge, Tenn. to determine where they stand from a national standpoint.
