2013 0609 races

The second dry Saturday rolled around, and Riverhead was in store for some good racing, on this almost-summer evening.

There were only four races on the bill this evening, with the finale being the 100 lap Richie Evans Modified Memorial Race.

First Race – 50-lap Grand Enduro race. There was not much info available at presstime regarding drivers and their cars, but it was a grand race. At the green flag, car # 54 vaulted to the lead, but that would be short lived as car # 36 made a few slick twists and took the lead. he would take the lead to the finish, in the ClearBeerDraft.com Chevy. My apologies to the driver for not having a name. Great Race!

Second Race – 30-lap, 27-car Legends Race. This proved to be a accident filled race, with many cautions, stops and starts. In lap 6 there was a 4 car pileup in turn 2, car #’s 19, 6, 9, 56 all came together with car #9 losing his front fender. In lap 12, there was a caution in turn 2, as car #26 broke a spring (see if you can find it in my picture) almost causing him to roll over. But smart driving prevailed for the driver Vince Colletti. In lap 22, car #02, driven by Greg Harris, caught fire in turn 3, spinning out and causing a pileup with car #’s 69, 99, 9. Getting back to racing, Timmy Solomito, in the #48 car, started in second, avoided all the scrums and grabbed the checkered square for the victory.

Third Race – 20-lap, 12-car Chargers Race. This race had more bumps and grinds than a Salsa contest. Right from the get go, there were cars battling for position. Car #’s 43 & 81, as well as car #’s 07 & 34. Car # 07, driven by John Baker started on the pole, with Eric Zeh, in the #34 car starting fifth, Baker led the entire race, in between accidents from car #’s 43 & 81, up until lap 19. Eric Zeh, in the #34 car had worked his way to the second spot, and was moving into turn two, in a quick bit of precision driving, Mr. Zeh went low, and passed Baker in #07, and went all the way in for the victory and the checkered flag. This Eric Zeh’s second win this season. Great Job Eric!

Forth Race – 100-Lap Richie Evans Memorial Legends Race. with 18 cars on the field. This was a quiet race with a minimal amount of cautions. Last years winner, Ron Silk, in the #6 car was in fifth position. Timmy Solomito started the race first, but quickly dropped to the likes of Ryan Preece in the#20 car, Justin Bonsignore, in the #51 car, and last years winner, Ron Silk in #6. There was a spinout involving car #00, Kevin Orlando, the cause a flat tire. The filed was keyed in on winning this race, and by the end, Ryan Preece, in car #20, would grab the checkered square, with Justin Bonsignore in #51, second, and Ron Silk in #6 third. Great race gentleman !! Mr. Preece’s fifth career win.

Well Motorheads, that’s it for this evening’s races. It was a great night of racing. I’m gonna head home to grab a cold one (Dr. Pepper), dust off the windshield, flush the radiator, and re-pack the bearings. Great job by Brigandi Brothers Towing, Track Services, always the best, Turn-One Cowboys, keep cheering, Wendy at the ticket window, always a dear. Thanks to Riverheadlocal.com for letting me provide this to the race fans all over. Kevin from “Need for Speed Video” keep shooting brother.

Be Well All, God Bless America, Stay Safe, and I will see you next time……… AT THE RACES !!!
