Northville Farms, located just east of Church Lane on Sound Avenue, first opened to the public in 1965 as just a small table of produce, selling only two types of vegetables: potatoes and cauliflower. Today, the fourth-generation, 110-acre farm sells just about every vegetable known to man, all within a newly built two-car garage which now primarily functions as the farm stand.

“Our specialty is potatoes, onions and shallots,” she said.

But at the same time, Gajeski says, every farm is becoming more well-rounded, diversifying their selection of produce, appealing more to the one-stop-shop consumer.

“So I guess you can say specialties don’t really exist anymore,” she said. “Peach farms grow vegetables now. People can do their week’s worth of shopping at one stand.”

At Northville Farms you will find fruits as well as vegetables. They also sell bakery products such as award-winning cheesecake from Holy Moses or pie or even some breads that Gwen bakes herself.

“Regardless of which stand you stop at, you’re still supporting the local community and you’re eating local produce,” Gwen said.
