McDonald’s and Cablevision on Route 58 were briefly evacuated this afternoon after a gas leak outside the Cablevision building.
Workers operating a skid loader hit a gas valve on the corner of the building causing the leak, according to Riverhead Fire Department Chief Joe Raynor. RFD responded to the call of a gas leak around 1:30 this afternoon and shut down the gas supply.
Both businesses will be reopened shortly, according to police radio reports.
