Update (9:55 a.m.): Nicholas Rutigliano, the Manorville man arrested by Riverhead Police yesterday in connection with two incidents at Tanger Outlets this week, was arraigned this morning in Riverhead Justice Court on first-degree robbery and first-degree attempted robbery charges. He was held on $10,000 bail and remanded to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility.
(Original story) A Manorville man has been charged in the robbery of a Tanger Outlet shop on Jan. 6 and the attempted robbery of a second store at the outlet mall two days later.
Riverhead Police said they arrested Nicholas Rutigliano, 25, at Tanger Outlets yesterday shortly after 3:30 p.m. when someone called police to report a suspicious person there.
The call was based on a Suffolk County Crime Stoppers alert for the Jan. 6 robbery reported at Sunglass Hut at the outlet mall.
Rutigliano was charged with first-degree robbery in the Sunglass Hut robbery and first-degree attempted robbery of the Movado Company Store outlet on Jan. 8, when he fled the store without proceeds, police said. In both incidents, Rutigliano displayed a knife to a store employee and demanded cash, according to police reports.
Rutigliano was held for morning arraignment.
