Julia Morrow, former Blue Waves pitcher, is in the running for the National Player of the Year award

Riverhead High School graduate and University of Tampa softball player Julia Morrow has been named the Daktronics South Region Pitcher of the Year.

Morrow, a senior from Baiting Hollow, enjoyed a stellar senior season where she set the school record for strikeouts in a season. She was also named Daktronics first-team all-South Region, first-team all-Sunshine State Conference and the SSC Pitcher of the Year.

She finished her senior season with a 25-9 record and 1.35 ERA. In 238.0 inning pitched, Morrow registered 349 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .173 batting average. Among the feats accomplished as a senior, Morrow set new school records for strikeouts, complete games (32), innings pitched and wins.

Morrow has thrown two perfect games in her career at University of Tampa. But her very first perfect game was right here in Riverhead in 2010, when she threw the only perfect game in the town’s history as a senior.

Morrow is listed in the UT career record books in every pitching category, and departs with a 48-18 career record and 1.28 ERA. She is second in program history in strikeouts/7 innings (10.11), third in shutouts (20), fourth in strikeouts (641), fifth in ERA, sixth in wins, sixth in complete games (51) and seventh in innings pitched (444.0).

Voting for the Daktronics team is conducted by sports information directors across the South Region. First-team selections will move forward on the national ballot for All-American honors.

Morrow will also be on the ballot for National Pitcher of the Year.
