New Beginnings Community Center will hold its fifth annual golf outing fundraiser on May 20. Suffolk County Sheriff Vincent DeMarco is this year’s honoree. At the outing, New Beginnings will recognize DeMarco’s staunch support of the New Beginnings’ Brendan House Project.
Brendan House, under construction on Sound Avenue in Riverhead, will be a 12 bedroom long-term care facility for veterans and civilians with traumatic brain injuries or physical and cognitive disabilities.
DeMarco has been working with New Beginnings on the Brendan House project since its inception. He established Suffolk County’s Labor Assistance Program which allows Suffolk County’s low-risk inmates to use their trade skills to assist in non-profit or government projects outside of the jail. Labor Assistance Program work crews have helped in the renovation of Brendan House.
“There are very few places in Suffolk County for individuals with traumatic brain injuries to find specialized residential medical care, and this is especially true for young people with this affliction,” states Sheriff DeMarco. “I am pleased to be able to have our skilled inmates help renovate this home to alleviate some of the expense of launching this worthy project.”
Over 150 golfers are expected to attend the event which has raised more than $50,000 for the Brendan House project over the past four years.
