“All the world’s a stage,” as the Greenport-based theater company Northeast Stage demonstrated last night when it transformed a corner of the East End Arts grounds into a 16th century French forest for a performance of “As You Like It.”
The show marked the first time Northeast Stage took its “Shakespeare in the Park” production on the roade. The troupe has presented “Shakespeare in the Park” in Greenport’s Mitchell Park for decades.
Last night’s performance of one of Shakespeare’s most well-known works took place beneath a tent on the arts complex green before an enthusiastic audience of about 40 people. See photos below.
Adapted and directed by Hannah Gray, the pastoral comedy features a cast of 21 actors with guitar and drum accompaniment by Joel Usher.
The show will be mounted in Mitchell Park on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, Aug. 3, 5 and 6. All performances are free and begin at 7 p.m.
Northeast Stage takes “As You Like It” to Patchogue next weekend, with a 7 p.m. free performance on Sunday, Aug. 7 at the Shorefront Park bandshell.
“As You Like It” was produced by Northeast Stage cofounder Amie Sponza.
