The annual Riverhead Fire Department Open House is a popular event that draws community members to the fire department’s headquarters to see equipment and demonstrations of the firefighters’ skills.
The department’s annual Open House Sunday is scheduled for October 2, from 1 to 4 p.m.
Following an opening ceremony, there will be displays and demonstrations of the emergency equipment the department utilizes to protect the lives and property of the community. Members of the department will demonstrate how the jaws of life work and show how they put out stove fires and a vehicle fire. the fire prevention trailer, stove fires, a vehicle fire, the use of fire extinguishers, and roof ventilation. Kids of all ages can enjoy the hands-on use of fire extinguishers and fire hoses.
