A drive to collect supplies, toiletry and clothing for veterans at the Northport Veterans Medical Center is underway now through Oct. 1 in Riverhead.
VFW Post 2476 Auxiliary is collecting the items for veterans in the hospital. Donations should be dropped off at the VFW post, located at 620 Parkway St. or Bagshaw Real Estate, 747 E. Main St., Riverhead.
Here’s what the hospitalized veterans need:
Toiletries — shaving cream, shampoo, (small size), unscented lotion, toothbrushes, toothpaste-medium, denture cleanser,nail clippers, hairbrushes, combs, Dove liquid soap, hair accessories such as clips and headbands.
Clothing — men’s sweat suits, men’s draw-string pajama pants, men’s and women’s slippers, men’s underwear (L-XL-2XL), men’s T-shirts (L-XL-2XL), skid-free socks, women’s underwear (M-L-XL), sports bras, pajamas,
Miscellaneous supplies – decaf coffee, powdered laundry detergent, “forever” postage stamps, gas cards, Michael’s Crafts gift cards, Stop and Shop gift cards (for Hungry Heroes/inpatient programs).
All items must be new.
Checks can be made to Northport Veterans Medical Center and should be earmarked for haircuts ($7), bus tokens or calling cards.
