A Riverside heroin dealer has been arrested after a lengthy investigation by the East End Drug Task Force, according to Southampton Town Police.

Task force officers arrested Charles Kendall Johnson, 32, of Ludlam Avenue on Aug. 9, police said.

The heroin Johnson was distributing is believed to be linked to several overdoses in both Southampton Town and Suffolk County, police said.

Southampton Town Police officers from the community response unit were attempting to stop Johnson while he was driving a 2017 Chevy Malibu on Riverleigh Avenue, police said in a press release. Johnson did not immediately stop his vehicle and before finally pulling over, dispensed what was believed to be heroin out the driver’s side window, exposing the public and the police officers to serious physical injury, police said. The exposure to this dangerous narcotic lead two Southampton police officers to seek medical attention, police said.

Johnson was processed and held for arraignment at Southampton Town Justice Court where he was remanded to Suffolk County Jail on $12,500 bail.
