The Blue Waves fell to Bay Shore yesterday 5-0 on their home turf.
It was a spirited game for both sides. Bay Shore jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead with Riverhead always a step behind in the first half.
The second half was a different game, Riverhead came out flying, attacking the Bay Shore zone constantly and keeping the ball deep, looking to break the ice and score a goal. But Bay Shore’s defense was not to be broken, led by the solid play of Talani Barnett, who shadowed Riverhead midfielder Krista Romer everywhere she went. Romer had a hard time setting up a shot. Anna Pekar had several up-close chances, but couldn’t capitalize.
In the end, Riverhead couldn’t break through a bigger, more experienced Bay Shore squad.
Riverhead girls’ next home game is Thursday, Sept. 14 at 4 p.m.
