The tropical storm watch has been discontinued for Long Island.
The National Weather Service discontinued the watch this morning, as Tropical Storm Jose, weakened as it moves over cooler waters, is expected to track well offshore.
Swells caused by the storm will likely cause dangerous surf and rip currents along the east coast, including the coast of Long Island, the weather service warned.
A tropical storm warning remains in effect for Block Island, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket and part of the Massachusetts coast, including Cape Cod.
A small craft advisory is in effect for Long Island Sound. North winds of 20 to 25 kt. and gusts up to 35 kt. and seas of around 7 feet are expected.
