Tropical storm conditions are expected to arrive across the East End this morning, with hurricane conditions possible, according to the National Weather Service in Upton. North winds of 30 to 40 mph will becoming west 35 to 45 mph this afternoon. Hurricane and storm surge warnings remain in effect.

The National Weather Service has issued a tropical storm watch for most of Long Island ahead of Tropical Storm Elsa's arrival in the region Friday morning.

A tornado watch has been issued for Long Island and New York City through 4 p.m. as Tropical Storm Isaias approaches the region.

A tropical system could bring heavy rain and winds to Long Island and the metro area this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Swells caused by the storm will likely cause dangerous surf and rip currents along the east coast, including the coast of Long Island, the National Weather Service warned.

Eastern Long Island remains under a tropical storm watch as the large, slow-moving tropical cyclone Jose churns in the Atlantic off the coast of Delaware today on a north-northeast track. It is expected to bring strong winds and rain to the East End, according to the National Weather Service.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone has declared a state of emergency for the county, in preparation of Tropical Storm Hermine.

Storm surge and erosion impacts are the biggest local concerns from Hermine, forecasters say. Surge will build to between two and four feet across eastern Long Island Sound and Peconic and Gardiners Bays Sunday and Monday.

Heavy rain over the next week and the impacts from a potential tropical storm could bring major flooding to the area this week through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
