The Railroad Museum of Long Island is holding its annual wooden train days event on October 7 and 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the museum’s grounds in Riverhead.

This museum event is geared to little train lovers and their families. There will be lots of wooden track and trains for kids to play with in the museum’s play area. Children can color pictures of Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends at the coloring station.

Youngsters can ride the “Pumpkin Patch Train” where they will choose a pumpkin for themselves and paint a face on it.

Of course, the museum’s model train layouts running on O, N, Z and garden gauge tracks are always a draw. There are another couple of attractions to try your hand at — the locomotive races and the freight train switching puzzle.

Tickets for the event range from $5-10.
