Riverhead Town Police are searching for a man wanted for an assault with a knife last night in downtown Riverhead.
Police were called at 8:44 p.m. about an assault in progress in the area of the Riverhead train station, according to a Riverhead police press release.
Responding officers located the victim, a Hispanic male, and determined that he had been assaulted with a knife by an unknown male, causing a laceration to his ear and neck, police said. The assailant, described by police only as a black male, fled prior to police arrival, according to the release.
A Riverhead K9 unit responded to the scene and attempted to track the suspect with negative results. Riverhead police detectives also responded.
It was later determined that the incident occurred to the rear of an auto glass business located at 222 West Main Street. Police provided no further information about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance transported the victim to Peconic Bay Medical Center where he was treated and released.
