Riverhead lost to Ward Melville 8-1 at Riverhead High School yesterday.
It was a tough afternoon for Riverhead, as they faced a hot Ward Melville pitcher in Kristina Maggiacomo, who finished the game with 12 strikeouts, shutting out Riverhead through six innings. The Waves got on the scoreboard in the seventh with their only run. Riverhead starter Katie Lysogorski was solid on the mound, but lacked support in the field.
Riverhead is 4-3 overall, and 1-2 in conference. The Waves’ next home game is Monday, April 16, at 4:15 p.m. against Sachem North.
