(Updated 3:15 p.m.) Gunshots in the area of Brown Street and Goodrich Avenue in Riverside were reported by multiple people this morning at about 9:40 a.m., Southampton Town Police said in a press release.
Patrol units responded to the area and conducted a search but located no victims, police said. However, a short time later police were called to Peconic Bay Medical Center for a report of a victim with a superficial gunshot wound, according to the press release. Police later confirmed that a 16-year-old victim was shot in the foot.
The Southampton Town Police detective division responded to the hospital and an investigation is currently underway, police said.
Phillips Avenue Elementary School went into lockout and a Southampton Town Police School Resource Officer responded and remained at the school as a safety precaution, police said.
