Townscape’s summer concert series has a new venue this year.
The popular Friday night concerts will be held in Polonaise Park in Polish Town.
“Grangebel Park is a beautiful setting, but parking has always been a problem and now even more so with Peconic Crossing going in,” said Councilman James Wooten, coordinator of the summer concert series.
“There’s plenty of parking around Polonaise Park and with that beautiful pavilion, I’ll never have to worry about weather,” Wooten said.
The open-sided pavilion, located on Lincoln Street and Osborn Avenue, is owned by the Polish Town Civic Association, which is providing the facility to Townscape in exchange for flower baskets to be supplied by Townscape for the streets of Polish Town.
“This year we have 10 shows, running 10 straight weeks from June 29 right through Aug. 31,” Wooten said. “I’m very excited. We’ve got some great music.”
The 2018 concert series lineup:
July 6: Just 60s
July 13: Southbound
July 20: NY Exceptions (50s doo-wop)
July 27: Sound Symphony Orchestra
Aug. 3: An Evening with Stefano Andreotti
Aug. 10: Who Are Those Guys
Aug. 17: Penny Lane (Beatles tribute band)
Aug. 24: Family Affair (Sly and the Family Stone tribute band)
Aug. 31: Jan Hanna Band
There is no admission charge for the concerts, which are sponsored by Townscape with the support of local businesses and organizations.
