Former school board president Dr. Susan Koukounas was elected to the post again Monday at the Riverhead Board of Education’s organizational meeting for the 2018-2019 school year.
Christopher Dorr was elected vice president.
Koukounas, an associate professor of mathematics at Suffolk County Community College, served as board vice president last year after previously serving two terms as president.
“We will continue to work to bring more resources for our students while staying under the tax cap,” Koukounas said tonight after the meeting.

Dorr, who is beginning his sixth year on the board, said he is looking forward to taking a leadership role.
The elections were not unanimous. Trustee Laurie Downs abstained on both votes and trustee Therese Zuhoski abstained on the vote for board president. Neither offered public comment about their reasons for the abstentions.
Newly elected trustee Brian Connelly took his seat for the first time Monday. Elizabeth Silva, the other new trustee elected in May, took office immediately upon her election to fill an existing board vacancy.
