Sobriety checkpoints in Riverhead last night netted one arrest, according to Riverhead Town Police.

A Greenport man was arrested at a checkpoint on East Main Street near Elton Street last night, police said. It was one of several checkpoints established throughout the town by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s DWI Task Force, according to Riverhead police.

Osiel Alexander Gomez-Gonzalez, 40, was charged with operating a motor vehicle while ability impaired by alcohol and held for arraignment, police said.

Similar enforcement details will continue through the rest of the year as well as into the New Year, police said.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
