Police are searching for two people in connection with a robbery in the parking lot of a West Main Street bank late last night.
Police said a man who had just made a withdrawal from the ATM at the Chase Bank at 7 W. Main Street just before midnight last night was forcibly robbed of his cash.
A man in a green pickup truck stopped the victim’s car as he was attempting to leave the bank parking lot, police said in a press release this morning. The driver of the truck demanded his wallet and when the victim refused to comply, a fight ensued, police said. The assailant ripped the wallet out of the victim’s hand and fled eastbound on Main Street.
The victim sustained an injury to his mouth in the fight, police said. He refused medical attention, according to the report.
The assailant is described as a Black male under the age of 30, tall with a thin build, according to police. He was accompanied by a white female in her 50s. They were in a green, older model, extended-cab pickup truck, police said.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone that may have witnessed the robbery or may have information, is asked to call the Riverhead Police Department at (631) 727-4500. All calls will be held in confidence, police said.
