Riverhead Town Police report the arrest of four people on charges stemming from an underage alcohol sales investigation in town.
The Riverhead Police Department COPE Division in cooperation with the Riverhead Community Awareness Program conducted an investigation into retail establishments that resulted in the arrests, according to a press release issued late Tuesday night. Police did not provide the date(s) of the investigation.
Police said one employee at teach of the following establishments was arrested and charged with
Unlawfully Dealing with a Child in the First Degree:
Riverhead Supermarket and Deli, 945 W. Main St. Riverhead;
American Gas, 1427 Main Road, Jamesport;
Bolla Market, 3705 Middle Country Road, Calverton; and
Lidl, 1151 Old Country Road, Riverhead.
Police said the following locations were also checked and found to be in compliance:
Sound Avenue, Liquors-5085 Sound Avenue, Riverhead;
North Fork Liquors, 1527 Main Road, Jamesport;
King Kullen, 6233 Route 25A, Wading River;
Valero Gas, 5904 Route 25A, Wading River; and
Shop Rite, 1615 Old Country Road, Riverhead.
Police said the investigations are conducted in an effort to reduce the sale of alcohol to individuals under age 21.
