A Sag Harbor man in possession of a shotgun in violation of an order of protection has been charged with Criminal Contempt in the First Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, according to Riverhead Town Police.
Police said in a press release this morning officers conducted a traffic stop on Peconic Bay Boulevard just east of Meetinghouse Creek Road in Aquebogue at 2:31 a.m. today and determined that the operator was under an active order of protection. The order stipulated that he not possess any firearm, but the officer found him to be in possession of an unloaded 12-gauge double barreled shotgun in violation of the court order, police said.
Police arrested the vehicle operator, Benjamin J. Lehmann, 30, of Sag Harbor, on charges of Criminal Contempt in the First Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, according to the report.
Lehmann was processed at police headquarters and arraigned in Riverhead Town Justice Court, police said.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
