A bicyclist struck by a pickup truck in the intersection of Route 105 and Flanders Road Sunday afternoon was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of his injuries, Southampton Town Police said.

Police said the cyclist, a 49-year-old Flanders man was northbound on Flanders Road yesterday shortly after 2 p.m. when he entered the intersection with County Road 105 and was struck by a westbound 2020 Ford pickup truck operated by Charles Bloxon, 66, of Riverhead.

A Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office unit alerted Southampton Police to the collision at 2:13 p.m., town police said in a press release yesterday.

Southampton Police, Flanders Fire Department, Flanders Volunteer Ambulance and Southampton Town Police Detective Division responded.

The bicyclist was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital by a Suffolk County Police helicopter for treatment of injuries, the nature of which were not described by police. Police did not identity the cyclist, pending notification of next of kin, according to the release.

Southampton Town Police detectives are continuing to investigate the collision.
