The Riverhead High School Blue Masques will present the cult-classic musical “Little Shop of Horrors” this weekend.

Performances are Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Riverhead High School auditorium. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $15. Students can purchase tickets for $5 when they show their student ID. Additionally, audience members can attend a meet and greet with the cast after the Saturday, 2 p.m. show for $5.

The musical is based on a 1960 horror comedy film “The Little Shop of Horrors,” and follows a poor florist’s assistant who cultivates a man-eating plant to help him garner fame and fortune. The musical was made into a feature length film in 1986 that starred Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene and Steve Martin. The music and lyrics for the show were written by composing duo Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, who would go on to write the music and lyrics to beloved Disney films such as “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Little Mermaid.”

Riverhead’s production stars John Ellis as Seymour, Olivia Meyer as Audrey, Ethan Caskie as Mushnik, Noah Lake as Orin, Ava Sidik as the voice of Audrey II and Ayla Fideli as the puppeteer behind Audrey II.

RiverheadLOCAL talked to the cast at a dress rehearsal this week to learn more about the show. Watch the video below.
