A new coastal flood advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for the area along the Peconic River in Riverhead tonight.

The advisory is in effect from 5 p.m. today until midnight.

Moderate flooding is expected around the time of high tide tonight in Riverhead. High tide occurs at about 9 p.m. Total tide is forecast to be about 3.2 to 3.7 feet above normal, causing flooding of one to two feet above ground level in vulnerable areas along the shore of the western Peconic Bay in Riverhead, the National Weather Service said in the advisory.

A coastal flood advisory was in effect yesterday in the same location for the evening high tide cycle. High tide in Riverhead last night was at about 8 p.m.
