Southampton Town Police have charged a Riverside man with criminal trespass after they found him within a closed business on Enterprise Zone Drive in Riverside last night, according to a police press release.
Police said they received a 911 call at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday from a business owner reporting they had seen an unknown man on a security camera inside their closed business.
Responding patrol units searched the building and located Brian K. Jenkins, 56, of Riverside inside the building, according to the report. Jenkins was arrested at the scene and transported to Southampton Town Police Headquarters for processing, police said.
He was charged with Criminal Trespass in the Third Degree, a class B misdemeanor. Jenkins was processed and released on a field appearance ticket for return to Southampton Town Justice Court at a later date.
Riverhead Police arrested Jenkins on Saturday in connection with the Oct. 6 theft of power tools and accessories from a vehicle parked in an East Main Street lot. He was charged with Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, a class E felony, in that incident according to Riverhead Town Police. He was processed on the charge and released on a desk appearance ticket for a later date in Riverhead Town Justice Court, Riverhead Police said.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
