Riverhead Police report the arrest of a Mastic Beach man on a felony robbery charge after the man allegedly punched and robbed another man on Railroad Avenue Sunday evening.
Police said they received a 911 call reporting a robbery in progress at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Cedar Street Sunday at approximately 6:57 p.m.
Responding Riverhead patrol officers determined that a male victim had been punched in the face and knocked unconscious by another man, who took the victim’s backpack while the victim was unconscious and fled the area, according to the police report.
Riverhead Police K9 and detective divisions responded to investigate, police said. After a search of the area by Riverhead K9-2, the suspect was located in the area of Court Street and Griffing Ave and was taken into custody, police said.
Police said the suspect was identified as Juan Francisco Urizar Zamora, 19, of Mastic Beach. He was charged with one count of Robbery in the Second Degree, a class C felony, and held for arraignment.
The investigation is ongoing, police said, and they ask anybody who might have witnessed the incident to contact the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500. All calls will remain confidential, police said.
