A Riverhead man walking in the Riverside Maritime Trail Park Wednesday afternoon was jumped from behind by two men who stole cash from his pockets, Southampton Town Police said in a press release this afternoon.
A police K-9 unit tracked the suspects to a nearby wooded area and they were placed under arrest, Southampton Town Police said in a press release.
Officers responded to a report of a robbery in progress near the intersection of Flanders Road and Vail Avenue in Riverside at approximately 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, according to the release.
The victim was walking in the Riverside Maritime Trail Park when he was approached by two men who grabbed him from behind, pulled him to the ground, and stole the cash from his pockets, police said. He was not injured.
Detectives arrested Timothy Haught, 44, and John E. Jones Jr., 40, both described by police as undomiciled on charges of Robbery in the Second Degree, according to the police report.
The suspects will be held overnight for morning arraignment in Southampton Justice Court, police said.
