A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Suffolk County until 7 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service forecast for both this afternoon and evening predicts scattered showers and numerous thunderstorms for northeastern Suffolk County. Some thunderstorms may produce gusty winds, hail and heavy rainfall, according to the National Weather Service. The forecast puts the chance of rain in the area at 60%.

An air quality health advisory is also in effect until 11 p.m. tonight for Nassau and Suffolk counties. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. 

The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease.
