Southampton Town Police are investigating the death of a 79-year-old Flanders woman whose body was discovered in marsh land east of June Avenue in Flanders Thursday afternoon.
Stella Sayre was reported missing by police Thursday morning, after she had left her Flanders residence on foot Wednesday night at about 10:15 p.m., according to a police report.
Police from several agencies, using a K-9 unit and a drone, searched the area for several hours Thursday with no result, according to a Southampton Town Police press release. They were still searching when a caller to police at about 1:25 p.m. Thursday reported discovering a body in marsh land east of June Avenue in Flanders.
Police identified the person found to be the missing woman, who was deceased, according to the report.
The Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office was called to assist in the investigation, which remains ongoing, police said.
“At this time, there is no reason to believe she was the victim of foul play,” police said in a press release.
