Work on railroad crossings in Aquebogue and Calverton will require closing portions of Edgar Avenue and River Road this week, Riverhead Town Police said.

Edgar Avenue will be closed to through-traffic on Thursday, Dec. 4 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for final paving work, police said. Local traffic can use

alternative routes via Shade Tree Lane to Hubbard Avenue and Washington Avenue to Peconic Bay Blvd/Meeting House Creek Road.

The River River Road railroad crossing and roads in close proximity to the crossing will be closed on Friday, Dec. 5 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for work to upgrade the crossing. Local residents in the area will be able to access their homes during this closure.

“We encourage drivers to plan ahead and use alternate routes as needed,” Riverhead Police said in press releases announcing the closings.

The work is part of the MTA’s ongoing infrastructure improvements, according to police.
