A Riverhead man was arrested on an aggravated DWI charge after a three-car collision on Flanders Road and Cypress Avenue in Flanders last night, the Southampton Town Police Department said in a press release this morning.
A three-car collision at that intersection was reported to police at 10:44 p.m., according to the report.
Responding officers determined that the driver of one the three vehicles, while in an intoxicated condition, caused the collision by failing to yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic as they entered the intersection, police said.
No injuries were reported, police said, but two of the vehicles were rendered disabled by the collision and had to be towed from the scene.
Walmer N. Santos-Alvarez, 25, of Riverhead, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor, as well as other traffic violations, according to police.
Santos-Alvarez was transported to Southampton Town Police Headquarters, where he was processed and held for morning arraignment.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
