Charles G. Salice of Cutchogue died July 24, 2026, at home. He was 93 years old.
Born March 7, 1933, in Brooklyn, he was the son of Sarah R. (Panzica) and Gasper Salice and was one of four children. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at age 18 and served for three years during the Korean conflict as a corporal and paratrooper in the 187th Airborne Infantry Regiment. He was awarded a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars and was honorably discharged in 1954. In 1956, he married Rose R. (Zambuto) in Brooklyn. In his professional career, he worked as a carpenter for Hewlett Screen & Sash. He was also a member of the Southold American Legion Griswold-Terry-Glover Post 803.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, John Salice; and his brother-in-law, John Vitkevich. He is survived by his wife, Rose; his children, Kathleen Salice of Cutchogue, Thomas Salice (Susan) of Rye, New York, Charles Salice (Camille Passaro) of Southold and Gary Salice (Anne) of Cutchogue; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Joyce Vitkevich of Seaford, New York, and Philip Salice (Carmen) of Port Jefferson, New York.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 28, from 2 to 6 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck, where funeral services will be held at 5 p.m., officiated by Father Dante Sabban of Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue. Southold American Legion Post 803 services will follow at 5:30 p.m. Interment will be private at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery in Cutchogue.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Southold American Legion Post 803, Disabled American Veterans or East End Hospice would be appreciated. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
