Lorraine F. van Ryswyk of Mattituck died July 21, 2026, in Brooklyn, Connecticut. She was 94 years old.
Born April 17, 1932, in Greenport, she was the daughter of Florence E. (Gordon) and Walter W. McAslan and was raised in Southold. She married John K. van Ryswyk Feb. 15, 1949, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. The couple had three children and lived in Poughkeepsie before eventually settling in Mattituck. During COVID-19, she moved to Connecticut to be near her son. She worked as a self-employed seamstress for 60 years.
She was predeceased by her husband, John, in 2007, and her siblings, Malcolm McAslan, Claire Smith and Walter McAslan.
She is survived by her children, Johan van Ryswyk (Virginia) of Brooklet, Georgia, Ellen Sherba of Coral Springs, Florida, and Adrianus van Ryswyk (Donna) of Norwich, Connecticut; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held July 23 at 1 p.m. at New Bethany Cemetery in Mattituck, officiated by the Rev. Garret Johnson. DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck served the family.
