Laura G. Grathwohl-DeCastro of Cutchogue died Aug. 10, 2026. She was 86 years old.

Born Sept. 6, 1939, at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport, she was the daughter of Helen L. (Smith) and David E. Corwin and was one of two children. After graduating from Greenport High School, she attended two years of college and then, beginning in 1959, completed four years of nursing school at the Brooklyn Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at Eastern Long Island Hospital for 40 years and also served as an alcohol and drug counselor. She was also a member of the North Fork United Methodist Church.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Edward E. Grathwohl, in 1969; her second husband, Pete DeCastro, in 2015; and her brother, David S. Corwin.

She is survived by her children, Laura Grathwohl Austin of Turner, Maine, Ned Grathwohl of Mattituck, Glen Grathwohl of Cutchogue and Jim DeCastro of Florida; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family has chosen to remember her life privately at this time. Arrangements were entrusted to DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold.
