Marilyn J. Marschean of Southold died Aug. 26, 2026. She was 93 years old.
Born Oct. 5, 1932, in Queens, New York, she married her husband, Dick, and developed a passion for sewing. On Jan. 29, 1946, she received an award of merit presented by the Simplicity Pattern Co. Inc., recognizing her outstanding achievement in planning and executing her Simplicity sewing project. A talented seamstress, she tailored clothes and sewed for her family.
She and her husband retired in 1999 to Southold, where they first met. They lived in the house her parents, Ed and Tess Hildebrand, built in 1941 and hosted many Hildebrand family reunions there. She enjoyed babysitting and later spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, gardening, cooking, traveling, Frank Sinatra songs and old movies. After her husband’s death in 2011, she also spent time with friends at the Southold Town Senior Center in Mattituck.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dick; her son, Richard; and her son-in-law, Rick Lederer.
She is survived by her children, Catherine Marschean-Spivak (John), Jean Lederer and Amy Marschean (Paul Gilding); and her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Marschean. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date. Interment will be private at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Southold.
Memorial donations may be made payable to the Southold Town Senior Center.
